I love food. I love to eat, try new restaurants and enjoy a good, well-made meal. However, I’ve never been good at preparing delicious meals on my own…until now. Ok, well I’m not quite entirely there yet, but I’m on my way. Over the past few months, I’ve been trying more recipes and trying to eat out less and eat fewer pre-made meals. (There are a few wonderful websites I have to thank for my recipe inspiration…Dashing Dish, Cooking Light, Eating Well, Whole Foods and Meatless Monday).
One thing I’ve really tried to do is cut down on processed foods/meals. While I always keep a few frozen dinners in my freezer for those moments when I just don’t have the time to cook or I forget to pack a lunch, I’ve noticed that since I’ve been cooking more, that I’ve really lost my appetite for those kinds of foods. I accidentally forgot my lunch today and remembered that I had a frozen dinner in my office freezer; the first thought that came to my mind was ‘ugh.’ I’ve learned my lesson.
And although I’m not a vegetarian – I try to challenge myself by only eating vegetarian meals on some days. It helps me find creative ways to eat more fruits and veggies. Have you heard about Meatless Monday? Find out about it here.
I do have setbacks. Living in a city where restaurants and fast-food chains are literally within walking distance makes temptation more difficult, but I have noticed that I genuinely feel better when I’m eating better. So that’s my motivation.
Now for my next task – trying to control my sweet tooth. I swear I can go through a whole bag of cookies in one sitting. But this takes time, people; Rome wasn’t built in a day! I’m on my way. 🙂
