This year, I am really motivated to challenge myself with Lent. I usually always give up something – last year it was fried food (which wasn’t as difficult as I’d thought…); I’ve previously given up soda, potato chips and a whole slew of other unhealthy foods that I wanted to cut from my diet. What I love about Lent is that not only are you challenging yourself for God, but you also force yourself to change bad habits that can lead to a permanent change.
This year, I want to give up meat for Lent and I know it isn’t going to be easy – I love nothing more than steak, chicken tenders and hamburgers, but this is supposed to be a challenge so it’s going to be difficult.
Studies show that vegetarian diets are healthier and that people who consume an all-vegetarian diet live longer. I will never be the type of person who could give up meat permanently, but I do want to find ways to incorporate more vegetables, beans and soy into my diet. I’m hoping that I will find lots of recipes (and the best ones I’ll share!) that will be healthy and satisfying.
I’ve got less than one week left to eat all the meat I can; I think I hear a hamburger calling my name right now! What will you be giving up for Lent this year?
