How to get your house smelling like a home this holiday season

To me, there is nothing more welcoming than walking into a home that smells heavenly. It could be cookies baking in the oven, a meal being prepared or even a scented candle, either way, it immediately gives you and your guests the sensation of warmth and calmness.

With Thanksgiving coming up later this week (can you believe it’s here already?!) and the Christmas holiday rapidly approaching, I thought I’d share a good tip I learned from my dad on how to make your home smell like a dream.

Here’s what you’ll need: orange peels, cloves, whole cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and water.

All you have to do is fill a small pot with water and add in the cinnamon sticks, orange peel, bay leaves and sprinkle in a generous amount of the ground cloves and leave it on the stove (on the lowest setting possible) for a few hours and let it gently simmer. It won’t take long before the delicious scents start to fill your home.

Caution – be sure to check the water every once in a while to make sure there’s still some in the pot. Otherwise you risk the smell of burning everything and I assure you, that will NOT smell good!

Do you have any other tips or tricks to keep your home smelling delightful?
