Family Reunion {McCall, Idaho}

My family recently traveled to Idaho for a long-awaited reunion. It’s probably been over a decade since we’ve all seen each other so it was truly magical. Our family is spread out across the U.S. (Washington, Texas, Colorado, Ohio, North Carolina,  etc.) so being together is rare and special.

We decided to all meet in one of our favorite vacation spots, McCall, Idaho. Before we arrived in McCall we flew into Boise and spent two days there. Boise is a charming town and it’s grown a lot since I last visited. The downtown area used to be desolate and now it’s filled with lots of great restaurants and distilleries! If you are looking for a great dinner spot, I would highly suggest Bardenay – they have the most amazing cocktails and their food was delicious as well!

And of course a trip to Boise isn’t complete without a visit to Bronco Stadium!

My family has a lot of history in Idaho so we dedicated some time to look into our family’s ancestry. We visited the state archives and found a few small pieces on my great grandparents (they brought the first gold dredge to the state and my great grandfather managed one of the mines there). We were hoping to find pictures of them, but we just weren’t able to find much given the time we had. We know the local history museum has a few of their artifacts but since they are currently going through a renovation, all the items were in storage and we weren’t able to see them. Either way, it was still fun digging into a little more of our family history.

After a couple days, we were off to McCall!

McCall is truly breathtaking. Gorgeous mountains set the scene with beautiful Lake Payette as the centerpiece. When you drive into town, you literally dead-end right at the lake.

We stayed at Hotel McCall which was wonderful. It was right on the lake and within walking distance of everything.

There was an interactive art installation on the beach where people could write down what was on their bucket list. It was pretty cool seeing all the different responses.

The Mile High Marina was one of our favorite spots in McCall. It had the best views and the BEST rum punch! We had quite a few cocktails here over the course of the week.

Some of my other family members decided to rent a cabin a couple miles away from town. Their view was spectacular.

We rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon so we could explore the entire lake. This was one of my favorite activities of the trip. Not only did we see the entire lake, but we also did some tubing!

My dad was in his happy place driving the boat.

When we weren’t spending time with family, we were on the water…jet skiing, kayaking, etc. We wanted to enjoy the beautiful water as long as we could!

We also took the opportunity to take a few long-awaited family photos. As you can imagine, it’s pretty tough with so many people, but after several tries, I think we got a few good shots. 🙂

Before we knew it, our week was nearly over. I hated to leave, but I definitely cannot wait to return. We drove back to Boise so that we could celebrate my dad’s birthday on our last night. We went back to Bardenay because we loved it so much the first time we were there!

I feel so fortunate that we were able to go on such a wonderful vacation. We couldn’t have asked for a better week in Idaho and I cannot wait to go back!
